I was in the laundromat folding clothes the first time I heard that Cialis commercial. Totally had a “hold up, wait a minute” moment. “That’s Mike Viola.” But no DVR at the laundromat - and no way to REALLY know, anyway.
I mean, sure, the very first time I saw the Candy Butchers (opening for They Might Be Giants back in February 1997), I quickly IDed the voice from “That Thing You Do!” but I was less confident about this commercial. What if Mike now had voicealike copycats? Nothing came up on Google searches, and could I really write to him and ask about boner medicine?
A little while later, during a show, Mike made some allusion to the commercial. I cheered. As far as I am concerned, it just means more people get to hear my favorite voice. Lucky them.
Forget what ya heard. This is the worst Oscars moment ever. Seriously, I screamed.
